I Write, I Breathe

I am a writer....a master and protector of words. "Like a knife, words should be handled carefully. They can cut deeply, the wound may never heal, and the scars may remain for an eternity. Or they can be used to make space to plant a seed - where fruition births legacy and feeds generations on hope, goodness, and love of humanity." ~Ey "E" Wade

The first book I read by my next author spotlight blow me away. The way she intertwined her characters and the powerful message it conveyed caught me by a pleasant surprise. I experienced so many emotions reading the book, I didn’t understand why. Not until I realized one of the characters hit too close to home. Life happens. It will be okay. These are the things Ey’s book zapped me with. Since then, I have become a fan. Her writing style is different, different meaning, off the charts! Once you read one, you won’t be able to stop until you read them all. Kickin’ It With KeKe…

Matt Posner -From Pen to Podcast "The School of Fiction"

There's a Guest in the Chair!

Sometimes as writers we morph into different areas  of the profession to keep ourselves motivated and as a marketing tool. Today I would like to introduce you to Matt Posner as a guest  on the shelf at In The Chair-the Interviewed Character, which is where I interview authors and/or the characters in their books.

Matt is a writer who loves the process of writing, sharing his knowledge with others, and networking with the masses. He has started a podcast  click the link and join us  for the full interview and to learn more about:

 "The School of Fiction" Podcast

Matt Posner is a writer and amateur photographer from Queens, New York and a high school teacher in Brooklyn. Originally from Florida, Matt has lived in New York City since 1999.

You can join Matt at his new school on YouTube, The School of Fiction where he chats with new and experienced authors. To ask questions, suggest topics, or arrange an appearance on the channel, or to hire Matt for personal appearances:  send an email to: the.school.of.fiction@gmail.com

Tell us, what made you want to start a podcast and what do you see as the purpose for it? I, have truly enjoyed watching the videos and am learning quite a bit from your guests.

An author these days needs a social media platform. During the years since 2020, when I stopped self-publishing, I came to admire YouTubers more and more and wanted to be one. Whensoever I might return to self-publishing, it will only make sense if I have built an audience in some other way. There are no decent tools for selling books online in the oversaturated market with an audience highly resistant to advertising. As a YouTuber with a good following, however, and a good set of promotional partners like you, any books I release will be able to get some favorable attention.

I chose the topic of how to write fiction because I am technically an expert in it, between my academic degrees and more importantly my more than forty years of experience. I also chose it because I flat out like meeting and interviewing writers. I enjoyed doing it on a website back during the indie author bubble, when you and I became friends, and now I am enjoying it even more when I can do it over Zoom --and use other technologies that were less powerful back then, like iPhone software -- to speak and interact in real time.

How do you choose your guests?

I am looking for a variety of categories of expertise and life experience. I want to interview people I’ve known a long time, and senior writers, but I want to bring in young ones also who have very different perspectives than I have. The one requirement for an interview with me is being able to teach my audience something about fiction writing that you have practiced, or to teach my audience and me something about book marketing, which is a separate and super challenging task now equally important.

Take a peek at Jennifer Jaxxon-Louis sharing her thoughts on the Plot Clock and Snowflake Method of writing.

When a Fan Girl Makes You want to Go "fan girl," for her. She likes me, she really likes me. #amwriting #books #reviews

There's nothing like a positive video from a fan to make a writer feel like an author. Especially when the author had begun to doubt herself and her ability to entertain readers.

The thing about this video that got me the most, her face and reactions when she realized the books were autographed to her, for her birthday.
Because of her, I feel the wall I've been banging my head on, crumble and I can't wait to get back to writing.
What makes you the happiest while writing?

Saving Yourself While Writing #amwriting #amediting #itorturemyself

Have you ever been so deep into your current body or bodies of work and you forget about...  everything, everyone, and yourself?
Me after shopping
The past few weeks have been like that for me. Trying to push the clock, when I am my time keeper, has revealed a real monster. Me.

Unintentionally, I setup a goal that was beyond human endurance and worked myself into a peripherally damaged state of health and literally heard my body say- and my mind shout, "you're gonna die."
Long story short, I wasn't eating well, if I ate at all. Most days it would be 3pm or later before I remembered I hadn't eaten or drunken anything all day. And that's after waking at 3 - 4 in the morning.
Result, I began noticing when I stood to walk, 2 or 3 steps was all I could manage until my heart rate skyrocketed like the beat would burst through the veins at the side of my neck, steal all of my energy, make me feel like vomiting, and the edges of my world dimmed. I literally felt like I was dying.

After a few more days of this, I vowed I would do better and take care of myself, while in the grocery store (for some healthy eats) I began to feel as if I were shutting down. My hearing was diminishing, sight, strength. I had to leave the shopping to my daughter and encourage myself to take the steps to the car. All the time my brain kept saying, you're gonna die. Who am I, an author, not to listen to the voices in her head? I believed myself and decided to fight against it.

Now, I have a loving sister-from-another-mother, who texts me throughout the day to remind me to take care of myself. I've set a timer for every 20 minutes to remind me to drink water and every 3 hours to eat something nutritional.
Best of all, I pulled out the mineral drops, feel energized and ready to live again.
Moral of the story: you are more important than anything you can write.

Whats your story that would have made you the main character in a novel of ill advice?

Jumping into Control of Wade-In Publishing & Selling on Ganxy

I about Ganxy from a fellow author, Bettye Griffin. I was entranced with the idea of selling my books through my website. When I found out it was possible on the blog and Facebook and 90% of the profit would be mine, my desire became all consuming.  Problem was, I was still with my publisher and could do nothing on my own, with the books that were still connected to them.

This past week or so, big changes were made and the beast had to come out. Afraid, yet determined, I took the reigns of my publishing career, and have jumped in all kinds of directions. The learning capabilities when you have all the control, liberating. After the training of publishing to Amazon, Createspace and Smashwords- this was a walk in the park. I found Online Converter, (a program Bettye suggested) to be the best thing since Cheetos,I love it. The site converts documents into files like ePub,mobi,PDF and others.

Make sure to follow Ganxy's instructions and name each file with the book's title, your name, and the format. Even though I love the idea of having sales directly from my link because I receive more of the money, I added the link to other retailers for those who would prefer to purchase from their favorite online store. The finished products are shown below. I still have the history and picture books to add, but so far, this has been a marvelous experience. I have blogs for each of the novels and have added the showcases to the respective pages. and on my  "Buy Directly From Me" Pinterest board.
As an author there are a few good  reasons to use Ganxy:
    1.  The 90% royalty is a major plus, compared to the much lower of Amazon and BN.
    2. Being able to control contests dates, downloads of free books, price changes, promotional campaigns, and discounts automatically and quickly.
    3. Customer service is terrific.
    4. And there are other ways of promoting
If you decide to take on the Author Showcase for your own self-publishing business, please email Lonnie Rosenbaum at Ganxy- lonnie@ganxy.com let him know you read it here.

Here's to believing in self and sales!

Let me know if you like her face. That's the hardest part and the easiest to mess up.

I know in the beginning,  she is just learning to talk so,  there will be errors and lots of wrong words used, but I want the help in correcting her. Maturing her beyond her capabilities.
That said,  if anyone is interested in reading about Ribbons & Belle, please email me. imtheauthor@gmail.com
This is a description of her:

Ribbons & Belle, a sweet romance . It's about 39,000 words at this moment. I'm trying to see how the controversy of a late term abortion works within the story. I'm rethinking the cover, too. Thanks for the consideration.

Gorgeous, dedicated fertility counselor Tyson Ribbons, has admired and loved embryologist, Anabelle “Belle” Lee for along time. When she comes in for counseling he fights everything within him not to deter her from her plans.
Doesn’t stop his heart from wishing it could be him fulfilling her desire.

Anabelle Lee, mourning her inability to have a child of her own-suffered through two miscarriages, a heartbreaking late-term abortion, and a soul crushing divorce. As an embryologist, she has protected the potential life of many frozen specimens, and lived envious of the women choosing invetro fertilization as their form of reproduction.
After a bit of encouragement from her best friend, and counseling from the very perfect Dr. Ribbons, Anabelle takes steps to fulfill her desire to become a mother.
Problem is, the announcement brings more of a shock than a gift. is a description of her.

How Did A Girl with Albinism become a Character in a novel?

To tell you how the concept of Paisley came along is a story within itself. One that is being told at this moment on her blog, When Clouds Touch.

I must say, the longer I am on the road as a writer, the more my characters have decided they will run the telling of their story, their way and in their time frame. I can not control the flow or the time put into the actual writing. Paisley has also been interviewed at In the Chair, check it out.

Making timelines, outlines, are out the door for me. It doesn't work. Call me lazy, call me unorganized, heck call me anything- wait just call me, I can use the distraction.

Setting a schedule, per se, is ridiculous on my clock. I can't tell myself sit in front of the laptop or use my pen and paper at a certain time and I may sit doodling that entire time or researching. I'll never get the story finished.

I won't say I write by the seat of my pants or get stuck banging on a wall, because I tend to know what I want to write, it's the sitting and waiting for the people, whose lives I'm recording, to speak up. I have to get it right. Which brings us back to Paisley.

The way she told me who she was came as a surprise. I knew the very beginning of When Clouds Touch and I knew pretty much how it would end, but nothing in between. No names for the characters or what their issues were. I just knew this couple loved each other. Have you ever been that way with your writing?

    Crash Into Me
(that very first scene, envisioned after watching the wind blowing clouds)

Two clouds, floating ever so slowly through the soft blue sky, one from either direction, moved closer on a path towards collision.

Angels, their beautiful song filling the air like a lullaby, sat serenely on separate pillows of softness, gently flapping their enormous wings to deflect the heat of the sun's rays from the cloud's tiny inhabitants.

The tiny souls, cuddled within the silken folds, glanced across the gap and in lightening recognition, they reached out. Before their chubby fingers could touch, thunder boomed and puffs from their guardian’s breath blew the clouds apart. Continuing in the same direction, yet inches apart, the angels resumed their soothing tunes.

Well, as I was setting up a storyboard on Pinterest, flicking through pictures, all of a sudden I heard an excited voice breaking through my thoughts and it was saying, "That's me. That's who I look like."

I was like wow. She looks so sad. And as I looked into her eyes, studied the vulnerability of the way she hugged, embraced, comforted herself- Paisley told me her story. It all came out like a rush and I wrote quickly. I know the foods she likes, hates, fav. everything, haha. She told me a lot which helped me give her flesh, bone, and humanity. When she began talking about her ailments, I had to slow her down to do research (more about that on her BLOG)

I've learned a lot about Albinism and the horrors directed at the African people living with the disease.  Though Paisley is of Asian descent, her parents are a trial on their own, the real conflict in When Clouds Touch. Please join us on her blog to hear her story. http://whencloudstouch.blogspot.com

P is for… Pursuing the Possible

Perhaps the chase begins at the moment of the first perfect poom poom of our newly developed heartbeat.

From that first blood rushing introduction into life we have kicked, punched, and struggled against the bounds to reach our goals. Pulled from the warmth of our mother's body we began our quest for pure happiness.

Stand tall, believe in what you want and go for it, which brings us to the letter ‘P’, one of my favorite letters of the alphabet. It stands between the two fattest letters O and Q, Opportunity and Quitter and yet it always looks forward.

What other letter is so powerful in its form and design? Back straight and face determinedly looking ahead. Following the 15th of his eldest sibling, 'O' (opportunity) with the knowledge and undeterred faith that wherever there is opportunity, anything is possible.

If you want to be an author and it doesn’t seem as if the traditional form of publication stands behind you, pull out your pen and paper, write your prose and become your own publishing company.

Pounding you with old tired clichés of what the children will miss when it comes to socialization and the quality of education. When a Game Becomes Destiny #thingslegendsaremadeof #gameoflife

Have you ever found something, a special rock, picture, piece of jewelry that became your talisman? Your symbol of luck or of good things to come?

Well, I did. It, is a piece from the Game of Life. I've had it laminated and with me for over fifteen years. So, here's how the story goes...
One day, I purchased the Game of Life for my daughters. It had been a game I'd wanted from childhood, but never got or played.
Well, on this day, as my daughters and I were into it I pulled this card which said, "You will write the great American novel." I immediately said I was keeping it, but the girls booed me down and the game continued.
A few weeks later, I traveled the girls to another city for them to stay and help with my mom while she recuperated from an illness. When I returned home, low and behold a part of the game piece lay face down on the parking lot, not looking at it, I tossed it on the dashboard of the car to give to the girls later.
On the return trip from getting them, one of the girls picked up the card and asked why I had it- turns out it was the same game piece and the rest of the story is history.
I haven't won the title of "great American novelist," but I have written several outstanding books. At least that's what others are saying?

It's the same ting I would do with an member of my family. As far as I'm concerned, those who enter the group, as fans of Ey, deserve my best.

KA-POOWIE and the Day is Over

Writing - in steps life and

WHIZ! BANG! POW!- and the day is over.
There are many things in life that causes a pause in the act of writing.  Nothing kills the joy faster than a family issue.  Usually,  I walk through it and keep on going. Not today.
Having to deal with an elderly parent who decides, after months of healing from a couple of strokes, that she can jump in her car and take a short road trip- is mind numbing.

Unable to get her to believe otherwise, I anxiously watched her drive away. Seriously,  the urge to struggle and yank the keys from her hand had been overwhelming, but I'm not her mother and I'm just not prepared (mentally) to live with her once I do.
I could literally feel my brain swelling,  my eyes popping,  and my neck constricting. The pain took over as swift and lethal as flame to gas and BAM!! A migraine.
Thank God she was gone no more than an hour, but my planned extensive writing day is KA-POOWIE

As an Author, Do You Write Reviews?

After reading the article by    Southern Writers: Suite T: Writers as Reviewers? posted by Michelle Sutton
I just had to answer. I didn't want to make my comment too long on her blog so I came to my own turf. I believe it all boils down to the belief of the author/reader. Some may find they don't have time to read let alone write reviews, while others ponder on whether or not they can be fair in their reviews efforts.
I love reading and then writing a review as soon as I finish the book. Usually this is just in the form of a quick note with all kinds of feelings poking out. The emotions evoked by the publication is still on the edge of the nerves and I'm eager to share. One of my policies for reviews is that I don't discuss the format and the errors, sorry. I'm strictly for telling whether the story is cohesive and enjoyable. If I find a lot of problems I stop reading and inform the reader of these issues. This is one of the perks of being an e-book author. The margin for making errors are always there and I see nothing wrong in giving someone a chance to correct their mistakes. Just like Michelle, if I don't like a book I just stop reading and go on to the next.

*Michelle Sutton is the author of well over a dozen Christian novels, a book reviewer, an avid blogger, a social work supervisor, the mother of two young college students, a devoted wife, and a follower of Jesus Christ.

What did you write today? National Day on Writing #What I Write

So, I read this tweet Southern Writers: Suite T: National Day on Writing-What I Write: about the national day of writing on my cell and went on over to Southern Writer's blog. Sad to say I have been a writer for a number of years and missed out on this last year. This year I celebrated my writing career by blogging on three of my different blogs.

I am a consummate writer. I write in several genres with the basic motto, "Life Demands Action." My goal is to entertain the reader as he scours the pages and to give the reader something to think about long after the book is closed.
