I Write, I Breathe

I am a writer....a master and protector of words. "Like a knife, words should be handled carefully. They can cut deeply, the wound may never heal, and the scars may remain for an eternity. Or they can be used to make space to plant a seed - where fruition births legacy and feeds generations on hope, goodness, and love of humanity." ~Ey "E" Wade

The first book I read by my next author spotlight blow me away. The way she intertwined her characters and the powerful message it conveyed caught me by a pleasant surprise. I experienced so many emotions reading the book, I didn’t understand why. Not until I realized one of the characters hit too close to home. Life happens. It will be okay. These are the things Ey’s book zapped me with. Since then, I have become a fan. Her writing style is different, different meaning, off the charts! Once you read one, you won’t be able to stop until you read them all. Kickin’ It With KeKe…

Romance that Brings the Sweet. Special today. #romanceinblack #romance

It's all about the sweetest love in 3full stories http://bit.ly/Bundlelove #romance 1novel 5 women 5 challenges 5 happily ever after http://amzn.to/1kV8Huv

 D. N. A.- NOTHING WOULD EVER BE THE SAME: Debney's world falls apart on her 18th birthday when she discovers everything she thought she knew about herself is a lie. Now it's a race to find out what happens first - graduation or motherhood. She's not interested in romance, she has a family mystery to unravel, but someone is waiting to step into some pretty big shoes and turn her life upside down one more time.

TRIPPING PRINCE CHARMING: Three women who don't believe the fairy tales decide they'll only take love on their terms and they've set the bar very high, but they've got a fairy godfather who wants to help them find their very own happily ever after.

WHEN CLOUDS TOUCH: Paisley always had everything going for her and everything against her. Born with albinism and a bad heart, she's lived under the watchful eye and controlling hand of her father all her life. But it seems her fate was already written in the skies when she keeps meeting a man who is as determined to let her live as her father is to keep her alive

. And a sneak peak of Ribbons & Belle a story where terrible choices are made for love. Coming May 2016

How Did A Girl with Albinism become a Character in a novel?

To tell you how the concept of Paisley came along is a story within itself. One that is being told at this moment on her blog, When Clouds Touch.

I must say, the longer I am on the road as a writer, the more my characters have decided they will run the telling of their story, their way and in their time frame. I can not control the flow or the time put into the actual writing. Paisley has also been interviewed at In the Chair, check it out.

Making timelines, outlines, are out the door for me. It doesn't work. Call me lazy, call me unorganized, heck call me anything- wait just call me, I can use the distraction.

Setting a schedule, per se, is ridiculous on my clock. I can't tell myself sit in front of the laptop or use my pen and paper at a certain time and I may sit doodling that entire time or researching. I'll never get the story finished.

I won't say I write by the seat of my pants or get stuck banging on a wall, because I tend to know what I want to write, it's the sitting and waiting for the people, whose lives I'm recording, to speak up. I have to get it right. Which brings us back to Paisley.

The way she told me who she was came as a surprise. I knew the very beginning of When Clouds Touch and I knew pretty much how it would end, but nothing in between. No names for the characters or what their issues were. I just knew this couple loved each other. Have you ever been that way with your writing?

Crash Into Me
(that very first scene, envisioned after watching the wind blowing clouds)

Two clouds, floating ever so slowly through the soft blue sky, one from either direction, moved closer on a path towards collision.

Angels, their beautiful song filling the air like a lullaby, sat serenely on separate pillows of softness, gently flapping their enormous wings to deflect the heat of the sun's rays from the cloud's tiny inhabitants.

The tiny souls, cuddled within the silken folds, glanced across the gap and in lightening recognition, they reached out. Before their chubby fingers could touch, thunder boomed and puffs from their guardian’s breath blew the clouds apart. Continuing in the same direction, yet inches apart, the angels resumed their soothing tunes.

Well, as I was setting up a storyboard on Pinterest, flicking through pictures, all of a sudden I heard an excited voice breaking through my thoughts and it was saying, "That's me. That's who I look like."

I was like wow. She looks so sad. And as I looked into her eyes, studied the vulnerability of the way she hugged, embraced, comforted herself- Paisley told me her story. It all came out like a rush and I wrote quickly. I know the foods she likes, hates, fav. everything, haha. She told me a lot which helped me give her flesh, bone, and humanity. When she began talking about her ailments, I had to slow her down to do research (more about that on her BLOG)

I've learned a lot about Albinism and the horrors directed at the African people living with the disease.  Though Paisley is of Asian descent, her parents are a trial on their own, the real conflict in When Clouds Touch. Please join us on her blog to hear her story. http://whencloudstouch.blogspot.com

So, what does a fellow do when the father of the woman he loves, doesn't have the same feelings for him?  Go over and see what their love is all about. When Clouds Touch.
The video at the end makes me think of all the trouble Malachi has when trying to convince Paisley's dad about how much he loves the man's daughter.

 AN AFFAIR OF THE HEART
“Mom, yes I understand what you are saying, that’s why I’m calling you. I’ve only been gone four hours. Everything is fine. I’m perfectly okay with Malachi. Where did you think I would be? Did you get my note?”

“Note? Note?” Annie’s voice rose an octave on the repeat of the word. A sure sign she had lost all control. “Do you think a few short abrupt sentences explain your action? Do you believe they excuse the way you have left your father and I on the verge of terror? We had no idea where you were or how you had gone. You can’t drive because of your vision. Did you call a taxi? Are you okay? Tell me where you are and we will come and get you.”

 “I’m not coming back there.”
“Paisley, honey you aren’t planning anything drastic are you? You were so upset last night. Please, I will talk to your father, make him see we want you happy. Have him change his mind about Malachi. Just come home.”
“I’m not coming there, Mom. It’s not my home, its the family home. I moved out and the two of you moved me back in. Took away my freedom, my love, and tried to push me back into the role of a naive child. I can’t return to that.”
“Then what are you going to do?”
“I’m going to spend the next couple of weeks with Malachi, marry him, and then I’ll return as his wife to confront you and Oto-san.”
“What? You’re going to-” Annie MuRong yelled to her husband, calling him to the phone relating everything Paisley had said to her. Her voice on the line was immediately replaced by her husband’s angry demanding tirade. “Paisley Tenshi MuRong, are you serious? You will marry this man?”

“Yes, Oto-san. He’s returning our family’s honor. Isn’t that what you were complaining about the other night? It is my destiny to be with him. Today was an impulsive move. No one was there to spy on me and I called him. It is a good thing I did, he was leaving town. One minute longer and I would have missed him. Its as if it were planned in the stars. Believe this, I’ll be alright. When I return, I’ll come there.”
“So, there is nothing I can say?”
“Yes, there is. You can give me your blessing.”
I will always wish the best for you, Paisley. I want you happy.” “Then rest and know that is what I am. See you in a few days.”
“Before you hangup, let me speak with Mr. Dae.” “Oh Oto-san, please don't embar...”
“Put him on the phone, now.”
“I hear you, Sir. We’re on speaker.” Malachi’s voice joined the conversation.“So, don’t try to chew my head off.”
“Mr. Dae, if you were here in front of me, your head would surely be torn off. At this moment, I can only bow defeat, you have won. I see now, this urge to have a relationship was not an infatuation between you and Paisley. I have to accept that. I have to be satisfied with the choice she has made and believe it will be for the best. What I want to know from you, Mr. Dae are your plans? What now?”
“Now, Sir. I intend to spend the next few days helping your daughter to heal her spirit, to erase the memory of the heartbreak we both felt at our separation. To show her love, mentally, verbally, and of course physically. Before all of that, I intend to marry your daughter. It will be a Gandharva Vivaah, a marriage of love because that’s what your daughter and I have for each other. And then I hope to come home and be embraced in your arms and accepted like the son I intend to be to you and Paisley’s mother. The same dependable, loving son I am to my parents. Hopefully, you won’t grab me around the neck and shake me the way my father does when I do something he disagrees with.” “Keep that hope, Mr. Dae. I’ll speak to you on your return.” Mr. MuRong disconnected the call. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xjqQfVY0yAc

Makes You Gush All Over When Someone Loves Your Baby #romance

I don't know about you, but as a writer, there is nothing that makes my day better than having a reader write a review for my books. Especially when it is a good one.

When Clouds Touch received a praising, 5 star review yesterday.  A totally much needed boost to my self-esteem.

Yay to love and a sweet romance.

    The review:
"You will simply love Paisley and Malachi. These two were destined to love each other and their sweet innocent way of coming together despite Paisley's health and overprotective parents just makes you love them more. Malachi is a real sweetheart and has an awesome sense of humor. He knows how to humor Paisley and her parents and lightens the moment with his big heart and cheerful outlook.

However, be sure to keep tissues for the ending. I can't tell you much emotion you'll feel at the end. The love that even through the despair and grief, hope shines through, and I feel touched by this story and will never look at clouds touching the same again."
Ahhhh, doesn't that make you just want to run put and grab a copy?

When the Publisher Hates Your Character ~When Clouds Touch #romance

"By the way, I really hated her father.  Really.  Really really.  I think I hated him more reading it the second time."
These are the encouraging words of my publisher at Inknbeans Press, yes, encouraging because it lets me know I got the point across. More important, it made Mr. Frank MuRong chuckle. This fellow cares none about your feelings. Mr. MuRong is the father of Paisley, one of the main characters from When Clouds Touch. He's stubborn, rude, opinionated, and dislikes Malachi, the love of Paisley's life.

When Clouds Touch is the embodiment of a story of soul mates, Paisley and Malachi.
Destined to meet since before birth, their story wraps us somewhere between loving and caring, wanting the best for someone, while wanting to see them happy, even when it is risky and they must obey the demands of family.
Paisley, a woman of Japanese decent, living with Albinism and heart disease, is meek, yet makes no apologies for seeking what she yearns. Hiding behind the protective fold of her wagasa, she yearns for freedom from her overprotective parents and the love of a man she's known only in her dreams, even at the cost of her health.
Malachi, a man who has visions of meeting an elusive shadow, uses his sense of humor and sensitive side to build their relationship. He's determined to win her love, even against the wishes of her parents.~

In a few days Mr. MuRong and his lovely wife will be a guest In The Chair and they will shed more light on their hard to swallow personality.

Amused and wanting to know more about my publisher's feelings for this couple, I asked her if I had given them  any redeeming qualities.

"As for her parents, there were no redeeming qualities.  I couldn't even excuse them as loving their daughter and wanting the best for her, because they only wanted the best for themselves."

Honestly, I couldn't write the MuRongs differently. As a writer, we all understand how this happens. The character comes out and well, shows their true character. You can try all you want to make them different, but somewhere in the novel, the real them is exposed. That's the type of people they showed themselves to be, dedicated and overzealous in the protection of their daughter. My next question was: Does it make the book seem bad? Does it work? And when your publisher comes back with a statement like this-

"Oh, absolutely.  It makes Paisley and Malachi's plight all the more powerful. This is probably the best thing you've ever written, it's like origami, perfectly folded into delicate layers that create a complex yet simple image. It's a touching and beautiful story.  I hope you're very proud of it."

    You know it works.

    • What is your reaction when someone tells you they don't like your characters?
    • Will it make you change things about them?

Please visit the blog and enjoy excerpts, sign up for emails and hopefully answer the survey.
