These short stories were easy to read except when the characters were
called by a totally different name they had on the page before. Fast
paced with a little mystique kept me reading. Each story piqued and held my interest to the end. Good job!
It's all about choices, By
The book had a few typographical errors that can distract from your experience of the story. I felt I was reading a writer who will get better and better over time. Her talent is already apparent. This was the first book of hers I have read and I will purchase the others I see she has published.
I must amend my review to say that the book includes six stories. I only received three on my Kindle. I'm sorry I missed the last three. Hopefully you will get to enjoy them.
When
one door closes another one opens, or so the saying goes. This book is a
collection of short stories by Ey Wade which share this image of one
door closing only to reveal another door to the principal character. The
stories center around strong, yet damaged and in some cases somewhat
fragile women.
There are four short stories and the finale which is a longer piece. Lesson Between the Lines is an interesting read as it is about a woman's reflections on a former lover. What she learned from him, both good and bad. Kind of a school of hard knocks reflection to be sure. "The Battle is not Between Us," is at it's heart a dark comedy and I enjoyed it probably the most of the short stories in the book. "No Regrets" is a kind of stand your ground tale of a woman finding her power after years of abuse. "The Cooking Class" is more of a light comedy about a shy boy with good intentions and a crush on his teacher. Ey doesn't often paint her male characters in as good a light as this one. I enjoyed it and could relate to the shy awkwardness of the male taking a cooking class, primarily because of the teacher.
Betrayal is the longest of the collection. A disturbing tale about a young woman who is used for appearances sake and then cast aside once the husband has attained the career status he sought all along. It's pretty rough stuff and Wade doesn't pull any punches in the telling of this story. I can't say a lot more without spoilers. However, once you get into this story, it's just about impossible to put down. You just have to read it through to it's conclusion.
This is a great book to pick up if you, like I was, are needing some short stories to fit in to a busy schedule - but yet want some thought provoking scenarios to hold your interest while reading and cause you to reflect on them between stories.

***I have to say, this review I'm confused on (Each story does have a beginning, end, & a closed Door to show it ended) , but to each his own opinion. At least they're willing to read another book.
I
am a reader. I literally love to read. I got absolutely NOTHING out
of this book. What was the meaning of the book? What was it about?
What was the story line? Everything ran together....was there suppose
to have been 3 short stories or one long meanlessness story. I was
totally and I mean TOTALLY confused.
I will probably buy another one of this author book again, but I surely hope he/she have a better story line the next go round.
