When is Stepping Out of Your Comfort Zone a Good Trip?

I tried something last month I never thought was possible, I joined a Facebook group with the goal to write a romance in a month. So exciting. The encouragement and feedback was fantastic and all a writer could ask for.Would I do it again? Without a doubt.
I had never been so anxious. Sticking to a consistent goal of daily writing was a new thing for me, I usually write forever, stop and rest , write on something different,  then get back to it.

I started off with a title set in my mind, no names for the characters, couldn't even envision them until somewhere in the middle of the story their names and faces came to me- Paisley and Benjamin.  After a few times of calling the male by the name he revolted and refused to move on until I changed his name to Malachi. I have to admit he was right, it fit him better. Which was a good thing. The end of the novel was already written and the idea for a trailer was being created.

Would it be something you would ever do? How do you feel about stepping out of your comfort zone? Would you write of a culture that isn't your own?

Here are the visions for my characters:
I'm finished. Now on to torturing beta readers and chewing nails as I edit. Here it is-

When Clouds Touch
When Clouds Touch is the embodiment of a story of soul mates, Paisley and Malachi.
Destined to meet since before birth, their story wraps us somewhere between loving and caring, wanting the best for someone, while wanting to see them happy, even when it is risky and they must obey the demands of family.
Paisley, a woman of Japanese decent,  living with Albinism and heart disease, is meek, yet makes no apologies for seeking what she yearns.

Hiding behind the protective fold of her wagasa she yearns for freedom from her overprotective parents and the love of a man she's known only in her dreams, even at the cost of her health.

Malachi, a man who has visions of meeting an illusive shadow,  uses his sense of humor and sensitive side to build their relationship. He's determined to win her love, even against the wishes of her parents.

“ I knew in my soul, I loved you before we ever met.”

Paisley has dreamed of this
connection all of her life. Held him in
every pulse of her heartGlimpsed him from the corner of her
Eyes. Like wisps of the future - drifts from past.
Malachi chased her in his dreams ....
Across a life time. Seeing, but never touching.

And that’s how they lived life, continuously rushing past destiny.
Reaching for each other, only to have their steps redirected.

When clouds touch, it becomes an affair of the heart. Will the heart be strong
enough to accept the challenge?
